Baba is a common Ukrainian and other Slavic languages nickname for grandmother. It is also used as a nickname for father in countries from the Eastern-Mediterranean to the Far-East. The simple phonetic makeup of Baba is not overlooked by babies, who have been known to utter Baba as their first decipherable word. In fact, Baba is also used in Afrikaans to mean 'baby'.
